When you are driving in the rain your main focus is to get to where you need to go safely. But when you are caught in a flash flood would you know what to do? If not you can follow these five steps so you and other people driving can be safe.
Step one: Watch the cars that are in front of you. If you see the car in front of you swerving a little bit because of all the water in the road don’t keep driving. You can end up in the other lane, and hurt someone or yourself.
Step two: Estimate the water depth. Water can be deeper than it looks. If you don’t know how deep the water is don’t keep driving because a car can start floating at six inches.
Step three: Exit the car quickly if it starts to float. If the water is so high that you can’t open your door try to climb out your window. If you have electric windows try to bust out the windows so you can get somewhere safe.
Step four: Walk or run safely. Get somewhere high off the ground as soon as possible.
Step five: Try to float. If the water knocks you off your feet cover your head with your arms, and try to float
